Gordon Willmore Haws, age 94, passed away at his home in Providence, Utah on January 29, 2016. He was born November 21, 1921 in Logan, Utah, a son of Laura Elizabeth Willmore and Wesley Walters Haws.
He attended schools in Logan, Utah and graduated in the high-school class of 1940.
Gordon served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant during World War II in the Pacific Theater in Hawaii and Guam.
He married Ruby Maples on January 27, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. He is the father of seven children: Charles (Annette) Haws, Elizabeth (Kent) Sundberg, Nathan Haws, Randall (Debbie) Haws, Suzanne (Jim) Smith, Marvin (Ann) Haws, Irene (Gordon) Allred.
Gordon was a respected member in the savings and loan business community in Logan for over 35 years. He was a member of the Logan City School Board, County Chairman of the Utah Heart Association, and on the board of the Cache County Volunteer Action Committee.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he enjoyed his service as a stake clerk in the university stake, as bishop of the Logan 4th Ward, and also as branch president in the Sprin Hollow Branch. In 1986 – 1988 he served a mission with his wife, Ruby, to New Zealand.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, and seven children, 41 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren, and sister, Laura Beth Barrett (Boise, Idaho).
Gordon is preceded in death by his brothers, Dean and Frank; three grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Logan 4th Ward Chapel, 294 North, 100 East. Friends may call Wednesday evening at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
