Glen Ravsten

September 23, 1941 — February 2, 2002

Our beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Glen Ravsten, age 79, passed away on February 2nd, 2002. Glen Ravsten was born in Clarkston, Utah on September 23rd, 1922, a son of Bennie Ravsten and Clara Emeila Christensen. He was the 8th child in a family of six girls and four boys. Glen married his eternal, ever supporting companion, Zelphia Jeanne Raymond in the Logan L.D.S. temple on November 5th, 1941. This was the beginning of a beautiful union between Glen and Jeanne. From this special union came two loving children, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Family was the center of Glen?s life. Glen received his education in the Clarkston and North Cache High School Districts. He was a hard worker, growing up on a farm. His first job away from farming was at Hillfield Air Force base where he worked as a guard. In December of 1944, Glen was called to military service where he proudly served. He served in the Philippine Islands and was one of the first of the occupying forces in Japan. After being released from duty, Glen and Jeanne made Smithfield their home. Glen farmed and drove truch for Cache Valley Cheese for awhile until he joined the Parson Construction crew in 1960. In 1991, after several successful years in this business, his doctor advised him to quit the heavy - duty equipment work. At this point, he utilized different, yet equally important talents by working as a custodian at the Summit Elementary School where he accumulated young fans by the dozens. Most of them knew that if they sought out Glen, in anticipation of finding candy or treats, their expectations would be greatly met! Glen also dedicated many personal hours tutoring children in reading. Many children could only satisfy their curiosity about Glen?s short, stiff crew cut hairdo by actually reaching up to rub his head. Always accommodating, he would bend towards them to make it easier for them to reach?.and he loved every minute of it! Glen especially loved children and they loved him. With always an enthusiasm for life and a quick- witted story to tell, Glen made friends throughout his entire life. Right up until his last summer of riding his ?rascal? scooter around the neighborhood, he kept up to date with the community and neighborhood news. He was interested in everyone and everything, and that was felt by all. Having worked hard all of his life, he never took anyone or anything for granted, especially his loving wife, Jeanne. With the exception of his ?rascal? which, could only seat one person, you would never see one of them, without seeing the other. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 5th, 2001. And the few times that they were apart, Glen always found a way to work Jeanne?s name into all conversations. He was so proud of her and of her many accomplishments, particularly her cooking! Glen is survived by his best friend and companion, his wife Jeanne, two loving children Clayton Ravsten Darlene Camas Oregon and Jolene Burnham Randy Sandy Utah. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Kristin Cole Patrick, Spencer Ravsten Kelly Emily Ravsten and Haley Burnham, and 1 great grandchild Madeline who were the ?apples of his eye.? Survivors also include two sisters, Lucetta Anderson and Hazel Godfrey and 1 brother, Lee Elaine Ravsten. His parents and siblings Ben, Clara Ellen, Lester, Bessie, Sylvia and Jean preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 179 North 100 East, with Bishop Alan Webb conducting. Friends and Family may call on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will take place at the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family through the Nelson Funeral Home website at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
