Glen "Ponch" Chambers

April 29, 1920 — January 18, 2013

Glen 'Ponch' Chambers age 92 died January 18, 2013 in his home in Smithfield, Utah. He was born April 29, 1920 to Theophilus Chambers, Jr. and Addie Watson Chambers. He was the 7th child of 13 children.
He married Lois Ravsten, November 29, 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had 3 children, Sterling Paul, Evelyn, and Eldon Vance. Lois died July 24, 1997 after 58 years of marriage. Glen has continued to live in the family home in Smithfield, and always had a beautiful yard and garden which he generously shared with family and neighbors.
Glen worked on the farm with his dad for several years after his marriage. He served in the Navy as a Sea Bee during World War II constructing landing strips for airplanes on Guam. He became a mason contractor and was known for being one of the best bricklayers in the state. He enjoyed racing horses and watching both his and others' horses race.
Glen has been active in the Smithfield American Legion Post since his discharge from the Navy in 1945 and served as Commander for 2 years. He also worked on committees for the Smithfield Health Days and other community events/projects.
He is survived by his sons, Sterling Paul Beth of Blackfoot, Idaho; Eldon Vance Jane of Layton, Utah; son-in-law Robert Lee of Logan, Utah. 15 grandchildren 48 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren his 5th generation. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Thelma Speth, Beth Speth, Donna Fae Hodges and Karen Thalman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois daughter Evelyn Lee, his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 12 noon in the Smithfield 3rd Ward Chapel, 640 North 200 East. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 in the church building prior to the service. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Smithfield American Legion Post 58.
