Tremonton - Gertrude Secrist, 85, passed away suddenly at the Peachtree Retirement center in Tremonton on September 27, 2003.
Gertrude was born July 17, 1918, in Tremonton, Utah, the daughter of Anna Crozier and Riley S. Roberts. She was raised in Tremonton, where she attended McKinley Elementary and Bear River High School. After graduation she attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan for a year.
She met Thaine S. Secrist from Collinston when they attended school together in Tremonton. They were married in 1939 and lived most of their married life on the Secrist family farm in Collinston, where Thaine farmed and ran a construction business. Thaine passed away in 1997.
Through the years Gertrude worked at Gephart's, First Security Bank, and the J.C. Penney store in Tremonton, as well as the J.C. Penney store and Ceenie's Dress Shop in Logan. She enjoyed her associations with the many people she met and worked with at these jobs. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and handwork of all types, as well as gardening and collecting family and community history. She was a long-time member of the Beaver Ward, holding many positions in the Primary and Relief Society. When they were young, Gertrude and Thaine were dance directors in the MIA. She and Thaine enjoyed doing sealing sessions in the Logan temple for many years. Most recently she served for several years in the stake name extraction program.
Thaine and Gertrude are the parents of four children: Sonja Allan Shelton, Susan Mitsuyuki Sakurai, both from Salt Lake City; Marilyn Paul Pali from Tremonton; and Robert JayDene Robinson from Overgaard, Arizona. Gertrude has 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
In 2001 Gertrude moved into town and at the time of her passing resided at the Peachtree Retirement Center in Tremonton, where she enjoyed the company of several lifelong friends as well as many new friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 30, 2003 at 12:00 noon in the Beaver LDS chapel located at 5870 North 4700 West in Beaver Dam. There will be a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 N. 100 E., Tremonton, and from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church.
