Gertrud Haltiner, 91, of Logan, died Thursday, July 21, at Legacy House of Logan. She was born in Hettenschwil, Canton Aargau, Switzerland, on November 15, 1913, the daughter of Philipp Binkert and Berta Bomelli Binkert. She attended school in Klingnau, where she grew up with her brothers and sisters. On December 9, 1939, she married Fritz Eugster. He died in Lichtenstein on May 2, 1946. Gertrud moved back to Switzerland with her 5 year old daughter, Verena, and lived and worked with her brothers and sisters in a clothing factory. She was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1950. In December of 1954 she and Verena emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Logan. Gertrud became a U.S. citizen on June 23, 1969. She married Ernest Haltiner in February 1955. She and Ernest ran Logan Floral and Greenhouse for many years. Ernest died in January 1976 and Gertrud?s daughter, Verena Stair, died in Concord, Massachusetts, on November 14, 1987. Gertrud was a member of the Logan 19th Ward and the Logan 5th Ward for many years, and most recently was in the Logan 9th Ward. She did extraction work and was a Relief Society visiting teacher for several years. Gertrud was an avid gardener and cared for the grounds at the Courtyard Condominiums, where she lived from 1982 to 2004. She also loved to quilt and over the years made many beautiful quilts for her family and friends. She is survived by her grandson, Brian Huppi, of San Francisco; two sisters, Walburga Brassel and Ruth Kolb, both of Switzerland; several nieces and nephews; nine step-children; and several close friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, as well as her husbands and daughter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
