Georgene Doutre Jones: August 13, 1925 to July 13, 2005
Georgene Doutre Jones passed away Wednesday July 13, 2005, exactly 30 days
short of her 80th
Birthday after a long and courageous fight versus the effects of diabetes. Georgene was born in Logan, Utah on August 13, 1925, and has been a resident
of the Bay Area since 1950, when she married her beloved and loving husband
of 55 years, Fay Fuhriman Jones, on June 21, 1950 in the L.D.S. Temple in
Logan, Utah and immediately moved to Palo Alto. Fay continues to reside in
Menlo Park in the home they built together for their family over 41 years
ago. Georgene is also greatly missed and ardently loved by her four children and
their spouses, Richard Doutre Jones & wife Shelli Green Jones {San Diego,
CA}, Cynthia Jones Callaghan & her husband John {Seattle, WA}, Stanton
Doutre Jones & wife Nancy Harris Jones {Park City, UT}, and Marshall Doutre
Jones & wife Cindy Brown Jones {Coto de Caza, CA}. Georgene was also an
active participant in the lives of her 14 grandchildren and great-grandson,
each of whom she touched and inspired constantly with her great love and
positive "can do" example. Georgene was an exceptional singer and artist. She was blessed with perfect
pitch and an amazing world-class voice which is why she started giving solo
concerts before the age of 12, performing all over the state of Utah, in
churches, concerts and musicals. When Georgene was only 15 she gave her
first concert performance in Los Angeles as a guest soloist with the Los
Angeles orchestra at the LA Civic Center. Georgene attended Utah State University in Logan on a music scholarship,
graduating in 1947. After graduation, she was selected in a talent contest
for the state of Utah for an NBC talent audition and a Hollywood screen
test, appearing on television and had her own series of sponsored radio
programs. However, Georgene wanted to continue her serious classical voice training
and went to the East Coast to do so, studying at Boston University and
Julliard University School of Music in New York City, where she also sang
with the Metropolitan Opera. She decided that marriage and family were more
important, so she came to Menlo Park as a new bride where her husband was
studying at Stanford for his MBA. Throughout the majority of her life, Georgene was active in teaching voice
in Menlo Park and Palo Alto, with many of her students being awarded music
scholarships to colleges and Universities. In addition to her teaching,
Georgene sang in churches of all denominations and performed at many events,
charities and functions all over California, Nevada, and Utah. Georgene was
also a soloist numerous times for one of her favorite bodies of musical
work; Handel's "Messiah", including the annual production of this musical
masterpiece at the Los Angels Music Center. Early in her adulthood, Georgene headed a choral department at a secondary
school and she also served in many capacities in her church, working with
teenagers and with music. Later in her life, as her children left the home
for college, Georgene then extended her love of working with teenagers to a
20 year career of teaching at Menlo Atherton high school, in Atherton,
California, where she worked with students who had learning issues. Along with her husband, children and great grandson, Georgene is also
survived by a sister, Edith Doutre Snapp Escondido, CA and a brother David
Lamar Doutre SLC, Utah and his wife Greta Doutre. Funeral Services will be held at 12:15pm Thursday July 21, 2005 @ The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1105 Valparaiso Ave, Menlo Park, CA
94025, with family visitation immediately preceding the funeral services
from 1130AM-12N. The internment will be at 1 pm Saturday July 23, 2005 at
the Logan Cemetery
in Logan Utah. In lieu of flowers, please give to the American Diabetes
Association.
