George Blaine Merrill passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 1, 2002. He was born on October 14, 1922 in Trenton, Utah to George Osborn and Lois Mary Ashcroft Merrill. He married Geraldine Lott on June 7, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was raised in Trenton and graduated from North Cache High School. He later served his country in the Navy in World Ward II. He retired in 1986 from Thiokol after being a machinist for 25 years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held numerous church callings, including a faithful hometeacher. He was also a temple worker as long as his health permitted. He had a great love of baseball and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He attended all the activities they participated in throughout his life. He is known by everyone as a kind and compassionate man. He has spent much of his life serving others. He was always the first to lend a helping hand when one was needed. He is survived by his children: Gerry Merrill, Jay Mary Merrill, both of Trenton, Gayle Rod Spencer of Deforest, Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Irel Eppich of Smithfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, his parents, one son, Robert, and his two sisters Florence and Afton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2002 at 12:00 noon in the Trenton LDS Chapel, 1200 North 400 West. Friends and family may call on Sunday, January 6, 2002 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church one hour prior to the service.
