George Cyril Ledingham, 87, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Terrace Grove Assisted Living in Logan. He was born July 12, 1917 in Smithfield to Albert & Lydia Powers Ledingham. He lived his entire life in Smithfield, attending the local schools and spent 30 years in faithful service to the United States Government, with a portion of those years at Hill Air Force Base. Cyril was a fantastic gardener and loved growing fruits and vegetables, not only for his own sustenance, but to share with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and knitting coat hanger covers. He also enjoyed photography.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He and his wife, Mary Balen Ledingham, enjoyed teaching and tending children in the nursery in the ?old Smithfield Fourth Ward? and also working in the Logan Temple. He was a High Priest in the Terrace Grove Branch at the time of his death.
Cyril is survived by a nephew, Ken Lent; a niece, Barbara Kearsley and dozens of neighborhood children whom he cared for and helped watch over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary; a brother, Morris Ledingham; and a sister, Lydia Mae Lent. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the Smithfield 3rd Ward Chapel, 179 North 100 East. Friends and family may call one hour prior to services.
