George Woodrow Darley, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 under the compassionate care of Cache Valley Assisted Living and CNS Hospice. He was born July 5, 1917 to George Thirkell and Elizabeth Ann Simpson Shaw Darley in Wellsville, Utah. He attended school there and graduated from South Cache High School. He married Ileen Hall Wyatt on April 4, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. To this union they added four children. He loved the outdoors and farming. He worked along side his Dad until 1947. He then bought a home and farm in Rupert, Idaho. He sold this farm and purchased one in Heyburn, Idaho buying an additional farm through expansion. He was an excellent farmer, cattleman and manager. When he retired, he and his wife Ileen of 58 years moved back to Wellsville in 1990. She passed away on March 20, 1998. Four years later, he married Anona Hansen on March 31, 2002. George loved to serve in the church. Among some of his callings were Sunday School Superintendent, both Ward and Stake, High Priest Group Leader, Ward clerk and Stake Missionary. He also loved fellow-shipping inactive and new members of the church, and serving as a home teacher. Among his favorites were family, hard work, traveling, golf, fishing, woodworking, enjoying sunshine on his patio and razzle berry pie. His great sense of humor and pleasant personality endeared him to many. The assisted living center said he was a true gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Anona Hansen Darley of Providence; daughters, Carol Gale Critchfield of Payson, Utah; Katherine Dwight Whittaker of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and son, Steven Kathryn Darley of Marysville, WA; a sister, Rebecca Darley Packer of Chubbuck, Idaho; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
