Gene Richard Roskelley, 72, of Smithfield, Utah passed away peacefully in his home June 11, 2016.
Gene is the son of Dr. Richard Welling & Fawn Roskelley. He was born June 14, 1943 in Fort Collins, Colorado, but spent most of his life in Cache Valley.
Gene served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southeast Asia mission He served in Hong Kong, Mcau, & the Phillippines. Following his mission he graduated from Utah State University. Gene taught in the Cache County School District for 30 years, including Sky View High School, North Cache & South Cache.
Gene married Peggy Rentfro Roskelley of Cokeville, Wyoming in the Logan temple on June 25, 1968.
Gene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings in the church including a bishop, teacher & youth leader. He enjoyed his dogs, gardening, fishing, hunting, & camping.
He was preceded in death by his his wife, Peggy Rentfro Roskelley, his daughter Angie Roskelley. parents, Dr. Richard Welling and Fawn Roskelley, & his father-in-law, Delbert Rentfro.
Survivors include his mother-in-law, Bette Rentfro. Sisters, Janice Saunders & Suzanne Miller. Children & Spouses, Richard & Pam Roskelley, Juan & Colette Navarro, Nate & Rebecca Roskelley, Aaron & Nicole Eversull, Shane & Julia Roskelley, & Terilynn Roskelley. 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The viewing will be held on Wed., June 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Nelson Funeral Home located at 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah.
Services will be held Thursday, June 16th 12:00 noon, at the Smithfield 11th Ward chapel located at 79 East 200 South. Viewing will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at
