Gene Masami Fukui passed away peacefully at this home in Elwood, UT, on April 6, 2007. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Gene was born on April 24, 1924, in Elwood, UT on the family farm, where he spent his entire life growing, working, and raising his family. He is the son of Giichi Benny Fukui and Shigeno Tanabe Fukui.
On December 1, 1950, he married Machino Yamasaki in the Honeyville Buddhist Temple. Together they raised four children: Jeanette David Dansie of Twin Falls, ID; Francine Steve Johnson of Elwood, UT; Norman Elaine Fukui of Elwood, UT; and Dorothy David Nichalson of Pocatello, ID.
He was an active member of the Honeyville Buddhist Temple where he served as President for several terms. He also served on the Elwood Town Council and on the Bear River Canal Company Board of Directors.
He enjoyed welding, fishing, gardening, and was deeply devoted to his family and farm. His grandchildren were the special joys of his life. He was especially proud of each of their individual accomplishments and was always their biggest supporter. He is survived by his wife, four children, and twelve grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Mich Kiyo Fukui of Tremonton, UT; and two sisters, Sachi Ray Ogura of Salt Lake City, UT; and Aeiko Stanley Nakamura of Salt Lake City, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Grace George Takesuye of Bedford, NH.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Honeyville Buddhist Temple, 3945 West 6900 North, Honeyville, UT. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, UT. Internment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Tremonton, UT. The family would like to extend their special thanks and deep appreciation to Dr. Lynn Beard, the other doctors and staff of the Medical Arts Center in Brigham City, UT, for the many years of exceptional care they provided. A special thank-you to Legacy Hospice for their help during these final days and to the many family and friends for their acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy.
