Gale Welling

March 20, 1919 — June 30, 2007

Fielding, Utah ? Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 20, 1919, in Logan, Utah, to Truman Leroy Welling and Lottie A. Johnson.
Gale graduated from Bear River High School in 1938. He married Rhoda Oyler on September 20, 1939, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children, 22 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II 1945-46.
Gale was a farmer and carpenter who built many homes in the valley and was known for his finish work and excellent cabinet making. He was recognized as a master craftsman and created beautiful marquetry inlaid wood and other wooden crafts, which he generously shared with family and friends. His hobbies were ? collecting old photographs, electric insulators, barbed wire, and items relating to Utah history.
He held numerous callings in the LDS Church, including Scoutmaster, Elders Quorum Presidency, Physical Facilities Rep for the Garland Stake, and Fielding Stake Historian.
For many years he was President of the Yukon Water Company and served his community in many capacities.
He was an avid historian compiling and writing many historical accounts, including a book printed in 1986 entitled: Fielding: The People and the Events that Affected Their Lives. He served on both the Fielding Centennial Committee and the Box Elder County?s Centennial Historical Preservation Committees.
Gale is survived by his sweetheart of 67 years, Rhoda; his children ? Tamra Kay Asay, Logan, Utah; LeRoy Anne Welling and Steven Allyson Welling, Fielding, Utah; Debra Bill Overall, Prineville, Oregon. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jay and Dale, and one sister, Carmen.
Friends may call Thursday, July 5, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton UT. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, at 11:00 am at the Fielding LDS Church, 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Fielding Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
