G. Gordon Stephens, known as "Skinner" to many of his friends, passed away at his home September 17, 2013. Gordon was born November 21, 1936 to Gomer Geddes Stephens and Fern Chugg Andrews in Preston, Idaho. He was a graduate from Logan High. He loved our country and at the age of 17 his mother signed for him to join the Army. He served in the Korean War as part of Company "C" 723rd Tank Battalion. He married Saundra Winberg July 9, 1958 in Preston Idaho. They lived in Ogden, Providence, and Wellsville before settling in Smithfield in 1973 with their eight children. Gordon always supported and cheered for his children in their many activities and events. He enjoyed family fishing trips, loved horses and watching bull riding and working in his yard; and spent many hours helping is neighbors mow their lawns, trimming trees and shoveling snow. Gordon was a hard worker and provided for his family by driving trucks for many companies within Cache Valley until he was able to start his own G&R Trucking, and later Stephens Trucking.
Gordon was preceded in death by is dearly loved wife Saundra. He is survived by his 8 children; Corey Claudia of Spanaway WA, Kyle of Logan UT, Gordon C. Sharon of Phoenix AZ, Darin J Jerolyn of Henderson NV, Mark Jennifer of Hyde Park UT, Tracee Gabe of Millville UT, Todd Kathy of North Logan UT, and Leanne of Providence UT, 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday September 23, 2013 at 12:00 in the Smithfield Cemetery.
