G. Francis Giles

September 16, 1925 — June 10, 2005

George Francis Giles, 79 of Logan, Utah, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, died June 10, 2005 at Legacy House in Logan, Utah of natural causes. Francis was born September 16, 1925 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to George Francis Giles and Melvina Ethel Wilson Giles. He moved with his mother and stepfather working on several ranches in the Jackson Hole area. Upon turning 18 years old he enlisted with the United States Marines, proudly serving his country in WWII. He served in campaigns in Guam, The Mariana Islands, Iwo Jima and the Occupation of China. Following the war he met his wife Leona Mary Daniels who worked at the Lundley?s Drug Store in Jackson. They raised three sons Aaron, Dallas and Dennis. In 1960 they moved to Logan, Utah to work for Parsons. In Logan they had a daughter, Jennifer. Francis eventually became owner/operator of Giles Custom Backhoe and Giles Laundromat. Francis enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their various activities and was famous for teasing the kids. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he served in various capacities and numerous service projects involving his talents with his backhoe.
He is survived by sons, Dallas of Hyde Park, UT, Dennis Peggy of Providence, UT, daughter Jennifer Hansen Galen of Fairmont, WV, daughter in law Jackie of Logan, UT 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren 3 more due in the fall, Brothers, David ?Buck? Allen Jackie Clinton, UT, Stanley Clyde Allen Sharon Spearfish, SD, sisters Sonja Kaye St. James, Midland, TX, Anna Dee Hazlett Ross Tucson, AZ. Francis was preceded in death by his wife and companion, Mary, and his oldest son Aaron.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the Logan 15th Ward Chapel, 125 West 600 North. Friends and family may call Monday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Tuesday morning 10:30 to 11:30 at the church prior to services. Internment will take place at the Providence City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hospice and staff at legacy House for all their love and kind deeds
