Frederick David Walk, Jr.

Frederick David Walk, Jr., 79, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the Veterans Nursing Home in Salt Lake City of congestive heart failure. The family is grateful to the staff of this institution for their care of his needs during these last months. He was born October 7, 1922 to Clara Baer and Frederick D. Walk, Sr. in Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High and enrolled at the University of Utah, where he met and married Blanch B. Walsh on December 18, 1942. He served in the army during World War II. Upon leaving the service, he continued his education at University of Utah. He graduated and began working at the University full time. Over the years, he has worked at Sperry, Hercules and finally back to an educational facility- Utah State University. He worked at USU until his retirement in 1985. He was happiest when volunteering or helping to finish someone?s basement. He was ?Volunteer of the Year? while doing mailroom duty at Logan Regional Hospital. Frederick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Blanch, currently residing in Brigham City at Peach Tree. He is also survived by two daughters: Edith Walk, Salt Lake City; and Susan Richard McGraw, Perry; four grandchildren: Beth, Frederick J., Heidi and Richard J; three sisters: Marion Berkely, Verginia Gee, both from the Salt Lake area and Merle VernAsay, Central Point, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild. Friends and family may call at the Nelson Funeral home, 85 South Main, Smithfield on Thursday evening, December 6 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and at the Smithfield 7th Ward Church, 79 East 200 South, on Friday, December 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. At the request of the deceased, there will be no formal funeral, but the family will have a very brief indoor graveside service due to cold weather at the church following the viewing on Friday. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Smithfield American Legion Post 58. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the nearest Abused Womens? and Childrens? Shelter or Homeless Shelter.
