Bothwell - Francessa Wight Summers Allen, 93, passed away July 2, 2004 in Ogden. Francessa was born on December 16, 1910 in Thatcher, Box Elder, Utah, to Almon Nelson Wight and Elizabeth Ann Young. She grew up on a farm and learned to milk cows and work in the fields. She graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with a two year teaching certificate in 1930. She taught school in Snowville and Thatcher. She married Ervin G. Summers on July 31, 1935 and became the mother of his three small children. They added five sons to the family. She trained her two daughters and six sons to be responsible and hard working members of the community. Ervin died in 1958 and she returned to Utah State University to receive her bachelor?s degree in 1961 and her master?s degree in special education in 1966. She received recognition by local and state officials for outstanding work with handicapped children. She taught at Garland and North Park Elementary schools in special education. She was honored as Utah Mother of the Year in 1967. She served in many Ward and Stake callings. She was an avid genealogist. Through her scouting leadership, she instilled love for scouting in her children and grandchildren. She served in the Florida Tallahassee Mission in 1974-76. On March 25, 1980 she married Benjamin Allen who preceded her in death. She is survived by eight children and their spouses, Betty and George Hemmert, Odell and Ethel Summers, Lola and Jay Roberts, Wayne and Donna Summers, Kent and Kay Summers, Lee and Katherine Summers, Clyde and Mary Ellen Summers, Reed and Mary Summers. She is survived by 39 grandchildren, 124 great grandchildren, 28 great great grandchildren and one sister, Helen Macfarlane. Her husband, one grandchild, five great grandchildren, two sisters Bessie Andersen and Mary McMinn and two brothers James Wight and Leslie Wight preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at Noon on July 10, 2004 at the Bothwell Ward Chapel 10350 West 11600 North, Bothwell Utah.
Viewing at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, Friday July 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, July 10, at the Bothwell Church from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Bothwell Valley Cemetery. Condolences may be extended at
