Floyd Leor Griffiths of Cove Utah, was born Nov. 15th 1930, to Ora Murn Freckleton and James Rex Griffiths. He passed from this life April 4th 2014, in Logan Utah. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan and their children: Christine Kevin Branch of Richmond, Floyd Leor Jr. Alison of Cove, David Aaron Barbara of Idaho Falls, Annette Ben Hadfield of Brigham City. His posterity includes 20 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. His parents, older brother Don, sister Marie and husband Buehl Struthers preceded him in death. Also surviving are his sister-in- law Mignon Griffiths, sister Fay Leon Rowley, and brother Jim Shauna Griffiths. Leor grew up in Provo Utah and attended Lincoln High School, where he met his eternal companion, Joan Lee. Five months after their marriage in the Logan Temple, Leor he received a call to serve a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Their first child Christine was born while he was serving in Colorado. After returning from his mission, he worked nights, went to school in the day, and 3 more children joined the family. He graduated from BYU with a degree in Physics. For a short time, Leor worked for Hercules Corp. in Salt Lake and then started his own real estate development company. Much of his adult life was spent developing recreational property in the Uinta Mountains, including Manor Lands and Uinta Lands. In his later years he developed residential property in Washington Utah. Leor loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served as the first Bishop of the Highland second ward. In 1978 Joan and Leor accepted a call to serve in the Costa Rica, San Jose mission. After their return from Central America, he was ordained a patriarch of the Alpine Utah Stake. He also served as a Stake Patriarch in the Buena Vista Stake and the Washington Fields Stake, His last calling as an instructor of the High Priest quorum provided him with great associations and friendship in the Cherry Creek ward in Richmond.
Leor epitomized hard work and a positive attitude to achieve worthy goals. Whether it was a stranger or family, he was generous to those in need. He was always learning, and enjoyed taking on new challenges. He instilled in his children the confidence to think big, work hard and meet trials with faith
A viewing will be held at the Richmond Utah Stake Center, 135 West Main Street on Wed April 9th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thurs April 10th, at 11:00 AM, in the Highland LDS Ward, 11162 North Alpine Hwy 5300 West, with a viewing beginning at 9:30-10:30 AM. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Terrace Grove in Logan, for the wonderful care they extended in meeting the needs of our parents.
