Smithfield - Florinda Maes Alvares, 71, passed away at McKay Dee Hospital August 8, 2009. She was born April 30, 1938 to Anthony and Domitila Maes in Redwing, Colorado. Upon moving to Cache Valley, she met the love of her life, Daniel Alvares, with whom she spent 54 years together. What one didn?t think of, the other one did. If you saw one, you always saw the other. They were always together. Florinda worked at Marv?s Café for 17 years. She then worked at Cache Valley Cheese for 32 years. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, the bigger the better. She loved having her kids and grandkids at her home. Her door was always open for anyone. The more the merrier. She is survived by her husband, Daniel and six children: Daniel, Smithfield; Nancy Kim, Smithfield; Sally Russell Hooker, Hyde Park; Sammy Jolynn, Smithfield; Carol Mack, Logan; Frank Sheila Smithfield; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Charlet, Sonny, Leroy, Vivian, Benny, Bobby, Jeannie, Elmer, Loyde and David. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters: Willma and Dominica, and a brother-in-law, Greg Pitino. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, August 14, 2009 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 725 South 250 East, Hyde Park, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday evening, August 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield.
