Florence England Coleman

Florence England Coleman, age 91 died December 15, 2008. Florence England was born at home, the eighth child of Samuel Marion England & Martha Elizabeth Bench on Sep. 7, 1917 in Logan, Utah. Her mother died when she was 13, a loss from which she never recovered. Her father & most of her brothers were printers at the local newspaper. She loved to dance and met Ivan Coleman at a local church dance. They married March 16, 1935 at the Coleman home in Smithfield, Utah. Florence was 17 and Ike was 24. He had served in the U.S. Navy and returned to work on the family farm as needed. They came to California in Dec. 1935 & later bought a home in Venice, CA. They raised four children: Doreen, Linda Ann, Marva Elizabeth & John Ivan. Florence crocheted and knitted many lovely articles. She was often giving service to others: taking meals or doing ironing or delivering little cakes. She served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints for many years. She especially enjoyed typing in the temple and doing data processing for family history. Ivan & Florence were able to go on many trips around the world together, making friends along the way. They were married for 56 years before Ivan died in 1991 leaving a great void. Florence lived in the family home in Mar Vista until 2005 when she collapsed & needed a pacemaker and daily help. She lived in Simi Valley & then moved to live with her son & family in Lakewood, CA in Nov. of 2008. She is survived by her four children: Doreen Neser, Linda Ann Carruth, Marva & Edward Swain and John & Florence Coleman and 16 grandchildren. Grandson Nathan N. Neser died in 1999 There are 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson born in August 2008 making five generations. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah.
