Fern Elizabeth Hulse Leonhardt

November 7, 1917 — April 11, 2005

Providence ? Fern Elizabeth Hulse Leonhardt died April 11, 2005 at her home, with her children surrounding her. She was born November 7, 1917 in Smithfield, Utah to goodly parents, John Charles and Alice Charlotte Millard Hulse, now deceased. She was the oldest of her four siblings. She grew up a hard worker, and played hard too. She worked thinning beets, hauling hay, and taking care of her siblings and other people?s children, and cleaning their homes. As a teenager, she would be found with groups of friends at dances and enjoying each other. That is where she met her eternal companion, Elwood Alma Leonhardt. Elwood took his sweetheart to the Logan Temple to be married on February 20, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1995. She was active in the LDS church, serving at the Logan Temple and in the Primary for over 30 years; lovingly teaching the children with stories of Jesus Christ. Mom worked at Royal Bakery, Jensen Candy, Bluebird, Sweetbriars Clothing, IGA Food, Wingets and Country Shopper. Together with Dad, they had a huge fruit and vegetable farm, and worked long hours, while also taking care of the train station in Providence. Their farm cared for their own needs as well as many others. She spent many years with ?Woody? on road construction, helping in any way she could. Her greatest love and calling was her family and the special parties she would plan for them and the loving service she rendered to everyone. Her greatest pride was her posterity and welcoming each new grandchild and great grandchild into the family. She was a fun-loving, spiritual matriarch of our family and she will be dearly missed. Her posterity includes her four surviving children, three daughters and one son: Janis Baird, Jane Sherid Peterson, Providence; Betty Jerry Slack, Ogden; LaVar Frances Leonhardt, Ferron; and one foster son, Floyd May Stevens, Tuba City, Az. She was preceded in death by their twins, Jay and Joan. Her siblings include one brother, Glen RaNae, deceased Hulse; and three sisters: Macel, deceased Don Parker; Sadie James Parker; and Mada Clinton Liechty, Lloyd, deceased Janice Lenhart; Fern Sibbett Dail, deceased, Willis Geneieve Leonhardt, Merlin Rita Leonhardt, LaRae Don Godfrey, Melva Daren Reese and Alma Pam Leonhardt, all of Cache Valley. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, April 13, 2005 in the Providence 8th Ward Chapel, 155 North 100 East, Friends and family may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Wednesday morning at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Providence Cemetery.
