Evelyn Jeanette Morris passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Her life began June 7, 1912 in Springville, Utah as the third daughter of Franklin Perry Whitmore and Catherine Nagel Whitmore. At the age of four her family traveled by horse and wagon to Neola, Utah, to homestead on the Ute Indian reservation. At the age of 16 she returned to Springville where she graduated from Springville High School. She married a "Provo Boy", Reed Arvin Dickson in June 1932. They moved to Murray in 1933 with their daughter Joan. Ronald Arvin was born in 1936 and Jerolyn was born in 1939. Reed passed away November 1945. She married Glen E. Johnson in 1946 and gave birth to Glenda Jean in 1947. They divorced. Evelyn continued to live in Murray raising her children as a single mother. She worked at ZCMI and then Utah Credit Co. until she married Milton Allred in 1956. They moved to Denver, Colorado, until 1968 when they returned to Murray. Milt died in June of 1969. In 1976 she married Theron Morris. They lived in Las Vegas until his retirement when they moved back to Murray in 1979. He died in November 1989. Evelyn loved her home in Murray. Each time she returned to it she made it a show place including her large yard which she filled with flowers. She was a lifelong member of the LDS church, serving many positions in the Murray 3rd ward, a member of Women's Federation Club of Utah, a Daughter of Utah Pioneers, where she served 10 years as Second Captain, she was active in her Neighborhood Sewing Club. She enjoyed going to productions at the Pioneer Theater and the Hale Theater. She did beautiful handwork and made Afghans for each of her children and grandchildren. Her work won first prize at the Salt Lake County Fair. She was a classy lady, always well dressed. Her well coiffed red hair was her trademark. Few people ever saw her without her make-up. She moved to Pioneer Valley Lodge, a retirement center, in Logan in 2004 to be near her family. There she made many new friends and enjoyed her life for more than three years. She was predeceased by her siblings: Inez Elmer Kettle, Margaret Timothy Elder Moller, Brigham Young "Bud" Whitmore, and Alta Lester Kettle. She was also prededed in death by daughter, Joan Nelsen, son-in-law Earl Nelsen, grandson Reed Nelsen, grandson Shane Ivie and great grandson, Jason Nelsen Dodd She is survived by son Ronald A. Dickson Gwenn of Pleasant View, Ut; daughter Jerolyn Carl Malouf of Logan, Ut.; daughter Glenda Rod Ivie of Saratoga Springs, Ut. Fifteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 19 at Nelson Funeral Home 162 East 400 North, Logan. Services will be held in Murray, Ut at Jenkins-Soffe Morturary, 4760 South State Street at 2:00 p.m. Greetings of family and friends will begin one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery. Evelyn loved flowers and would be honored by your remembrance. Many thanks to the staff of Alpine Hospice of Logan for their dedicated service.
