Evelyn Frances Smith Jones passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Logan Nursing Care Facility in Logan, Utah. .She was a spunky and "sassy" 91 years young. She was born on July 1, 1921 on a lettuce ranch in Brawley, California to William Amos Smith and Thelma Maude Buel. She had one brother William LeRoy Smith and a half-brother Albert Jordan .all deceased Her mother was killed in a car accident in 1926 leaving her be raised by her Grandmother Edna Corbin Thompson. Most of her tomboy youth was spent in the Los Feliz and Atwater sections of Los Angeles, California. She graduated from John Marshall High in 1939.She knew old Hollywood and always would tell us of the movie stars that she would see and also who she looked like! She married Puett PL Jones in 1941 in Glendale, California and they had 61 years together playing golf, she got 2 hole in ones, fishing and always looking to catch the big one she did and having fun get togethers with family and friends. They had 2 children: Terry Jones Marte, deceased, West Hills, CA and Carolyn Keller Guy River Heights, UT She had many talents such as gardening, genealogy, painting and crocheting. and loved to share them with family and friends. Toward the end of her life she made all the Harry Potter scarves for Carolyn's 3rd grade class of kids each year and they loved them!
Mom and Dad lived all over the country from California to Connecticut, but usually found them back in Southern California until they moved to be near Carolyn and family in Logan, Utah in 1998. PL passed away in 2003 and she has lived with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson for the past 10 years. Her grand and great grandchildren were her joy. She wished she could have seen them more often. Grandchildren: Tom Jones Pam Jones Risner deceased David Jones, Jean Jones Sam Alsamman California Ethan Keller River Heights, UT Great Grand Children: Alicia Evelyn Jones Georgia Taylor and Emiley Risner, Amber, Brandon and Frank Alsamman California Only a month and a half ago she met Alicia Evelyn her great granddaughter and namesake after more than 24 years and was so thrilled to get that opportunity. Through a snowstorm and overcoming her aging difficulties they were able to meet and there was an immediate connection. Only days later did she find herself in an immediate decline of health and Encompass Hospice was at her side the whole way. A special thanks to Linda and Tammy and Logan Nursing. She passed "Sassy" until the end but in peace. A small family viewing will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, Logan, Utah on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 1 – 1:30 with a graveside service following at Logan City Cemetery at 2pm.
