Erma Larsen Young died of cancer in her home on May 14, 2009. She was born on January 30, 1919, in Providence, Utah, the daughter of Alma and Rebecca Larson. She had three sisters and three brothers who all succeeded her in death. Erma grew up in Providence attending schools in Cache County. She learned to work hard while helping her family take care of the farm. She was grateful for that experience in her later life. Erma married Nelson Young of Logan on November 12, 1938, who died in December 1977. Together they had four children: JoAnn John Kikkert of Salt Lake City; Richard Lynnette of Lewiston, Idaho; Douglas Elaine of New Braunfels, Texas; and Janice Wilson of Preston, Idaho. Erma has 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Erma enjoyed traveling to visit family and has seen the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Gulf of Mexico and many states in between. Her favorite vacation spots were Yellowstone Park and Jackson Hole. She lived all her life in Cache Valley and enjoyed riding up the canyons and around the valley. For 16 years Erma was employed at Utah State University working in the maintenance department where she made many friends. For 20 years Erma served as the ward librarian in her LDS ward. She served as visiting teacher until she was 88. Every Monday for 20 years Erma volunteered at the Sunshine Terrace helping with serving the patients. Erma enjoyed reading and had many other hobbies including making quilts, afghans, and making thousands of crocheted clothes hangers and other items which she then enjoyed giving them all away. Her funeral will be on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Ninth Ward Building, 500 North 100 East, Logan. Viewing and family visitation will precede the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
