Erma Mae Andersen Nielson, 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes in her bed, which was her wish. She was surrounded by her loving family. Erma was born March 4, 1930 in Ft Collins, CO to Fredrick Andersen and Jessie Fulton. She had one brother William (Bill) Nis two years older.
She spent her childhood years during the Great Depression helping on the family farm in Ft. Collins, CO; Sydney, Nebraska; LaSall, Utah and finally settled in Moab, UT, where she met the love of her life, Ted H. Nielson who had just returned for serving in WWII. They were married in Logan, UT on January 15, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Erma was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She joined the Church shortly after her marriage to Ted. She served in many positions in the Primary and Relief Society. She loved teaching the little children the truth’s of Christ’s church.
Throughout her life, Erma was an amazing seamstress, spending many years of her career working for The Fabric Shop in Logan, UT, Gepharts in Smithfield, UT, and many other positions. She loved to sew and continued to throughout her life. She enjoyed handiwork like crocheting, tatting, coloring, she was an avid reader, she loved mail order catalogs and Amazon in her later years of life while still waiting for her Publishers Clearing House check.
She enjoyed the outdoors along with her family and would sit near the river reading while her family fished. She loved her flower gardens and watching the bird feeders. She loved all of her pets throughout the years. She always kept a very tidy house and always had many treats to share with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her amazing cooking and her grandchildren and children have any fond memories of Sunday dinners.
She is survived by her son, Ted R. (Grizz) Nielson, Logan, UT; Susan Law, Cornish, UT; Karen (Paul) Chaplinsky, Norfolk, CT; Beckie (Gordon) Clawson, Hyrum, UT; Casey (Beth) Nielson, Dayton, ID; and Tamra (David) Fuller, Las Vegas, NV. She is survived by her 22 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored. She is preceded in death by one son, David Clyde (CeCe) Nielson; one son-in-law, Allen Law; her parents; her brother Bill Andersen; her spouse, Ted H. Nielson; and all of her in-laws. She had a wonderful reunion waiting for her!
A viewing will be held Sunday, March 23rd, 2025 at Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, UT from 6-8pm. Graveside service will be held at Smithfield City Cemetery on Monday, March 24th 11am.
