Enos Wiley Nielson

Enos Wiley Nielson, passed away Friday, February 7, 2003 in Logan. He was born December 31, 1912 in Emery, Emery County, Utah the son of Joseph Wiley Payne Nielson and Martha Deloa Hansen Nielson. He is the eldest child of eight children, four brothers and three sisters. He moved with his parents to San Juan County, Utah in 1915. He attended schools in Lockerby, Utah and Moab, Utah. He worked in farming, carpentry, and cow-punching in his youth. In 1942 he was inducted into the Army and served in company E of the 53rd infantry, spending eight months in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands theater of World War II. On April 21, 1943 he was married to Wanda Greene in the Salt Lake temple. They made their home in San Juan County, Utah until 1959 when they moved with their five children to Smithfield, Utah where Enos owned and operated the Smithfield Ceramic Tile Business until his retirement. He has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife served a mission for the LDS Church in 1979-80 to the Los Angeles, California Mission. Later they officiated in the Logan temple. Due to health problems he has been a resident at Sunshine Terrace since August of 2002. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Wiley Payne Nielson and Martha Deloa Hansen Nielson, two sisters, Lorraine Wheeler and Una Ossola and son-in-law George L. Walker, Jr. He is survived by his wife Wanda Greene Nielson, brothers, Jay Nielson, Ted Nielson, Stanley Nielson and Clay Nielson and a sister, Desie N. Oviatt. His is also survived by his children, Beth Sorenson Ralph, Elaine Coleman Merrit, Ann Gibbons Thomas, Joseph Mark Nielson Trisha, Barbara Walker George and 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 12 noon in the Smithfield North Stake Center, 155 West 400 North with Bishop LaMont Poulsen conducting. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Smithfield American Legion Post 58. Services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the LDS Humanitarian Aid.
