Emma Martha Hildegard Biernat Johnson ?Martel?, 100 years old, died Thursday February 22, 2007 in Sandy, Utah. She was born December 26, 1906 in Jarotschin, Posen, Prussia. She was a daughter of Karl Albert Emil and Alma Rosa Petzold Biernat. She married John Jacob Johnson on July 2, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died January 17, 1966. She received her education in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1939. Martel lived and worked in Salt Lake City at the Deseret Mortuary until her marriage. She was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled an LDS mission to Switzerland in 1946-47. Martel resided in Brigham City and Logan. She is survived by two nephews in Germany, Volker Biernat and Giselher Biernat; two step daughters, Jacqueline Sanders, Nashville, TN., and June Neman, Sandy, UT. Martel is also survived by 8 step grandchildren, 24 step great-grandchildren and 18 step great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 26, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. There will be a viewing prior to services at the funeral home starting at 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the Brigham City Cemetery on Tuesday, February, 27, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
