Smithfield ? Emeline Emma Thorpe Murray Noble, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Logan. She was born in Wellsville, Utah on December 19, 1911, the seventh of eleven children born to James Littlewood and Emeline Riggs Thorpe Murray. She attended Floradell school in Wellsville, until the family moved to Richmond in 1926. She then attended school at Smithfield Jr. High. She loved school and had numerous friends. While at Floradell, she would write short stories and the teacher would have her read them to the class. During her years at Smithfield Jr. High, she enjoyed sports and excelled at playing softball participating on the school teams. She continued to play on softball teams after her marriage. She met Melvin Noble in December of 1927 and a courtship ensued. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on November 28, 1928. They were the proud parents of four children: Melgene, Clayne, Larry and Dale. Melvin passed away on May 23, 1994. Emma was a hard worker and at a young age, would keep up with her brothers and sisters as they thinned 50 acres of sugar beets. She was a wonderful cook and great housekeeper. She and Melvin always had a beautiful yard of flowers and a large garden to share with family, friends and neighbors. One of Emma?s greatest pastimes was crocheting beautiful edges for pillow cases, dollies, and hankies . These lovely items have been given to many people over the years. Emma was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and spent years of faithful service in the Primary, MIA and Relief Society organizations. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and of prayer. She is survived by two sons: Clayne Melvin Loretta Noble, Roy; and Dale Murray Tamara Noble, Logan; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Reese Murray, River Heights; Merrill Murray, Richmond and a sister, Donna Andrew, Trenton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband , a son, Larry Murray Noble and a daughter, Melgene Noble Madsen and a great granddaughter, Brittney Noble. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Smithfield North Stake Center, 155 West 400 North. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 82 South Main, Smithfield and on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
