Elmina Jenkins Haderlie

August 6, 1915 — August 18, 2007

Elmina Jenkins Haderlie died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Logan, Utah. She was born August 6, 1915 in Freedom, Wyoming Star Valley to William Evan and Lena Weber Jenkins. She was the fifth of seven children. She graduated from Star Valley High School with high honors and attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan for 3 years passing on a love of education to her posterity. She loved music from her youth and learned to play the piano. Through her piano skills, she met her husband, Conn J. Haderlie, who was playing saxophone in a dance orchestra. They were married on August 12, 1936 in The Salt Lake LDS Temple. Conn and Elmina served an 18 month mission to the Dallas, Texas Temple 1992-94. Conn died in May of 1999 in Logan, Utah. Growing up on a farm, Elmina learned to milk cows when she was nine years old and in her 85th year drove a tractor to help out with the harvesting. Conn and Elmina continued to live in Freedom until in the 1950?s, when they moved to Logan where they could be nearer a temple and educational opportunities for their family. They raised their children on music lessons, singing in choirs, playing in bands and orchestras and attending many of the plays, operas and other uplifting activities in Cache Valley. Elmina served as organist, pianist or chorister many years in various organizations of the LDS Church. Her skills and enthusiasm for the Singing Mothers and ward choir brought joy to many people. Elmina worked for the school lunch at Logan High School for 18 years in the 1970?s and 80?s and enjoyed her associations there. Many have savored her delicious gifts of bread, pies and candies, as well as enjoying her garden produce. Elmina?s dearest treasures were the gospel and her family. She has two living sisters, Norma Campbell of Malta, Idaho and June Bosshardt of Redmond, Utah. Her seven children and their spouses are: Janis and Derral Siggard, Logan, Utah; Vivian and Wayne Blanchard, Logan, Utah currently serving a mission in San Jose, CA; Vicky and Dewey Furness, Sugar City, Idaho; Lloyd and Sharyl Haderlie, American Falls, Idaho; Max and Pat Haderlie, Paul, Idaho; Brian and Gaylene Haderlie, Rexburg, Idaho; Elwin and Nadine Haderlie, Pingree, Idaho. Elmina has 40 living grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, who honor their wonderful heritage. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conn Haderlie and an infant son, Stanford J. Haderlie. We thank the sweet, caring, skilled people at Rocky Mountain Hospice who have helped us for a year including Pam Seamons, Nancy Hansen, Norma Hancey, Aimee Irwin, Dana, Alecia, Holly, Lindy, Danielle, Debbie, and Wade Pierce.
