Ella Jensen Peterson

October 22, 1911 — January 15, 2009

Tremonton, UT – Ella Jensen Peterson, 97, passed away peacefully at the Bear River Valley Care Center Thursday, January 15, 2009.
Ella was born in Logan, UT the fourth of six children October 22, 1911 to Danish immigrants, Rasmus and Alma Olsen Jensen.
The family lived in Logan for seven years when her father and mother left to homestead land in Promontory, UT. They traveled there in a wagon and a buggy. The post office was at the Golden Spike about seven miles through the cedars. At age six, she was sent for the mail and a few groceries several times a month. After living there twelve years, the family moved to Thatcher, UT. She grew up on the family farm and learned at an early age the value of hard work. She milked cows, helped her mother with the chickens they raised for income and thinned and hoed many acres of sugar beets.
She met her eternal companion, Ervin C. Peterson, while living in Thatcher. They were married in the Logan Temple August 1, 1928. Ella and Ervin celebrated 48 years together before he passed away August 24, 1976.
Ella has been active in the LDS church, serving in many different callings. She served as President of the Relief Society and MIA, and secretary of the Sunday School; all which she loved doing. She had a great love for her Heavenly Father.
The top priority in Ella's life has always been her family. She loved having the family get together to celebrate birthdays and holidays. Especially Easter and Christmas.
Ella was an excellent housekeeper and extraordinary cook. She canned bushels of fruits and vegetables every year. Family and friends and neighbors have had many opportunities to be recipients of her delicious meals, pies, cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. Which she always sent a loaf home with you. She was a great seamstress and sewed many clothes including: suits, dresses, coats, ball gowns and many other articles of clothing.
Three sons and four daughters were born to Ella and Ervin. She is survived by four daughters and one son: Bonnie Phil Wright, Karen Kent Palmer, June Lefty Lish, Larry Linda Peterson and Sharrie Mae Hewitt; 25 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren and 11 great, great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Orval E. and Ronald Gene, one daughter-in-law, Margaret Ruth, three brothers: Oge, Soren and Wilford Jensen, two sisters: Edyth Shaw and Ruth Robinette, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
We wish to express our sincerest thanks to all those in the Care Center who so lovingly took care of our mother. Thanks to Janet Call, mom's neighbor, who came and fixed mom's hair every week. You are all truly appreciated.
A funeral service will be held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thatcher-Penrose Chapel, 11475 West 10400 North, Thatcher. Family and friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will be at the Bothwell Valley View Cemetery.
