LOGAN, UTAH ? Eleanor Joy Meng Bean, 82, died Thursday, August 15, 2002 At the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Meng of Logan. Joy was born August 15, 1920 in Thornton, Idaho, the eldest daughter of Carl Richard and Fredonia Swenson. She married Walter Meng on July 16, 1941 in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada LDS Temple. Walter died December 22, 1954. On December 7, 1956, she married Douglas S. Bean in Sugar City, Idaho. Douglas died December 5, 1993. Joy grew up on the family farm in Burton, Idaho, and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg. Shortly after their marriage, Walter and Joy moved to Brigham City, and then to Ogden as Walter worked as a carpenter in building the Army Hospital and various building projects at Hill Air Force Base. They returned to a small farm near Rexburg in 1943. Joy and Walter had one son, Richard. Because of Walter?s illness, the little family moved to Rexburg and Joy provided income for the family by working, first, at the Evan?s Ice Cream Parlor, then in a drug store and, for several years, she worked at the Ashilman Shoe store in Rexburg, where she made some life-long friendships. In November of 1954, Joy was elected Madison County Treasurer and was re-elected in 1956. Following her marriage to Douglas Bean, the family moved to Teton, Idaho, where Doug was a farmer and rancher. Joy and Doug lived in Teton until 1990. Because of some health problems, Joy and Doug sold their farm and moved to Logan, Utah, to be close to family. Joy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the Primary, Sunday School, Mutual, and Relief Society. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, and by her two loving husbands, Walter and Douglas. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Meng of Logan; Her two sisters, Gwendolyn Bratt, of Sugar City and Shirley and Fred Dee Saurey of Logan. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and their spouses, Tina and Blake Jensen of Salt Lake City, Melissa and Taylor Duersch of Jamesburg, New Jersey, Ryan and Misty Meng of West Jordan, Utah, and Cindy and Steve Larsen of Logan. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way and by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Flamm Funeral Home,61 North 1st East, in Rexburg, Idaho, on Tuesday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Burton, Idaho Cemetery.
