Garland, UT - Loving husband, father, and grandfather, Eldon Royal Griffin, 79, of Garland, Utah, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer with his loving companion at his side. He was born March 22, 1929, in Newton, Utah, the youngest son of Royal Joseph and Mable Evelyn Christensen Griffin.
Eldon grew up in Newton and Logan, Utah and graduated from Logan High School. Eldon served an LDS mission to England. After returning home he married his high school sweetheart, Ada Mae Wall, in the Logan LDS Temple May 2, 1952.
After graduating from Utah State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Eldon served in the US Air Force spending two years in Japan with his wife and young family.
Working as an electrical engineer for Thiokol, Boeing and Hill Air Force Base has taken the family to Huntsville , Alabama, Renton, Washington and back again to Utah.
Eldon was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in many callings. His greatest love for many years has been genealogy and family history work.
Eldon has been involved in many city affairs in Garland, Utah, serving as the Mayor, City Council member and Justice of the Peace for several years.
Eldon and Ada Mae have shared many hobbies. Eldon loves to sing and Ada Mae plays the piano. In their younger years the two made quite a musical pair. Both enjoy genealogy and family history. They have been very active square dancers, participating with dance clubs in Tremonton, Logan and Ogden areas where they have made many wonderful friends. Eldon loved to garden and work outdoors. He has always had a beautiful yard.
Eldon and Ada Mae's greatest joy comes from spending time with their children and grandchildren. They are the parents of six children, Rodney Annette of Kaysville, Christina Anderson Craig of Nibley, Bryce Carol of Roy, Sylvia Atkin of St. George, Clyde Jana of Mapleton and Vance Mayumi of Snohomish, Washington. Eldon and Ada Mae are the proud grandparents of 33 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren
Eldon is survived by his wife and six children as well as a sister, LuDean Hulse Ariel of Bountiful, and a brother, Seth Dee Griffin Barbara of Ogden, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vera Kelsey, and brothers, Lamont C Griffin and Nolan Kay Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 at the Garland Tabernacle. 140 West Factory St., Garland. A viewing for family and friends will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Friday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the tabernacle. Interment at Newton City Cemetery. We love you Dad and we will miss you very much.
