Elayne Okland Cannon

July 20, 1921 — May 9, 2007

Elayne Okland Cannon passed away peacefully on May 9, 2007 at home in Tarzana, CA, after a brave struggle with a lengthy and painful illness. She was 85. Born in Salt Lake City on July 20, 1921, she was the second of four children of Norwegian immigrants, John and Martha Okland.
She attended the University of Utah and studied tailoring in New York City at the McDowell School of Designing and Dressmaking. She owned a lingerie store in Salt Lake City, where she handmade many of the items she sold.
In 1953, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she met Roger Willard Cannon, Jr. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 28, 1954. She lived the rest of her life in West Los Angeles and Tarzana, CA.
Her peaceful attitude and calm demeanor influenced many around her during her life of service to others. An accomplished and creative cook, she was always happy to feed and nurture others. Elayne was also an incredible homemaker and loved china painting, sewing and doing needlework. She was best of all a loving wife and dedicated mother.
Elayne was a faithful, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities in her Church, including Ward Relief Society President and Primary President. She also served as a Supervisor in the L.A. Temple.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roger W. Cannon, Jr., daughter Leslie Cannon Rudd David 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her oldest child, John Cannon Kathy. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 12 noon at the Tarzana LDS Ward Chapel, 5520 Topeka Drive, Tarzana, CA. Friends may call that same day between 10-11:30 am. Internment will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery at 12 noon far northeast corner.
