Elaine Pitcher Carlson

Elaine Pitcher Carlson passed from this life into the next on Saturday, February 24, 2007. She was born June 25, 1922, in Smithfield, Utah, to George Parley and Carrie Orletta Mikkelson Pitcher. She attended Elementary and Jr. High school in Smithfield where she was an honor student. She graduated class valedictorian form North Cache High School in Richmond. Elaine married Donald Bud Carlson in the Logan LDS Temple on January 30, 1942. They have been together 65 years in this life. Due to Don losing his eyesight, Elaine started college at the Utah State Agricultural College in 1954 studying in the field of Education. In 1955, she received a full 4-years scholarship. She graduated Phi Kappa Phi from Utah State Agricultural College USU in 1957. Elaine taught English, speech and drama at North Cache and Sky View high Schools for 29 years, receiving various honors including the state Teach of the Year award. In her journal she recorded that she presented 26 school plays, 40 one-act plays and 30 three-act plays. She loved all of her student and they loved her. She has been a wonderful example to all during her life. Elaine has a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and has served faithfully in the organizations of the church as a teacher and leader. She has been a great example of one who has endured to the end serving her family and her eternal companion. She has been Don?s eyes for many years. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Don, as well as her family and those who knew and loved her. Serving her husband, family, and others was the most important thing in her life. She is survived by her husband, Don; three sons and their wives: Brent Jackie Carlson of Smithfield; Bob Susan Carlson of Boise, ID; and Brad Lana Carlson of Phoenix, AZ. She has 11 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Leo Marie Pitcher, Smithfield; Doris Ted, deceased Aston, Rupert, ID; LaMarr Donna Carlson, Richmond; Doyle Helen Carlson, Kasilof, AK; Carol Boyd Larsen, Cove; Ken Carlson, Richmond; Tess Wade Christensen, Richmond Reta Sam Rowland, AZ; Thad Carol Carlson, Logan; Carl Rochelle Carlson, CA; Druce Lee Cluff, Chugiak, AK; Joe Kaye Carlson, serving a mission in Russia; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Myrna Allen Carlson; three grandsons: Todd, Troy and Brandon Carlson; her parents; and the following brothers and sisters: George and Jen Pitcher; Sam and Ella Hammer; Frank and Mary Povey; Lowell and Helen Reese; and Ross and Jeanne Johnson. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 12:00 Noon in the Richmond 1st and 3rd Ward Chapel, 135 West Main, Richmond. A viewing will be Wednesday evening at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield from 6:000 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday morning at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
