Edwin Maughan Jardine

November 26, 1918 — August 27, 2011

Edwin Maughan Jardine, age 92, passed away August 27, 2011 of natural causes. He was born in Clarkston, Utah on November 26, 1918 to Andrew and Phoebe Jardine. "I was my Mother's best looking boy," he often said. Edwin adored his four sisters Helen, Barbara, Rhea, and Kay. Although he didn't have brothers, there were several cousins he shared a strong bond with. He learned the value of hard work growing up on the family farm. Edwin enjoyed riding his horse through the mountains and hills of Clarkston. He also loved playing basketball for the Ward team and attending the dances that followed. Edwin was called as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1941. He served in the Texas/Louisiana Mission "and there I made some everlasting friends" with the missionaries. Edwin and his cousin Rex Thompson joined the Marine Corp in February 1944 during World War II. He was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa and received the Purple Heart. Edwin married Marvel Olsen on November 28, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Bountiful, Utah where their two sons Lyle and James were born. The young family moved back to Clarkston which allowed him to farm – one of his dreams. Edwin also worked at the Ogden Defense Depot for 20 years until he retired. Edwin served faithfully in many church callings. He valued his experience as a counselor to Bishop Stacey in Bountiful. He also grew to love the people of Clarkston while serving as bishop. In 1984 Edwin and Marvel fulfilled a second mission working at the Church History sites in Palmyra, New York. When they returned home they continued to serve in the Logan Temple. Edwin is survived by his two sons Lyle Jardine and James Cindy Jardine; sisters Barbara Clark and Kay Godfrey; grandchildren Colby Julie Jardine, Jason Ashli Jardine, Mandi Tim Marshall, Jake Jardine, Jessie Chris Lott, Audrey Marcus Schmidt, Annie Jardine, Lucy Jardine, and Andrew Jardine; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marvel Olsen Jardine; his parents Andrew and Phoebe Jardine, sisters Helen George Johnson and Rhea Chuck Evans, brothers-in-law Venice Clark and Evan Godfrey. Family was important to Edwin. Since the passing of Marvel he enjoyed many phone calls and visits from Marvel's siblings and their families as well as his cousins and friends. Our family appreciates the kind staff at Logan Nursing and Rehab, Legacy House, and Pioneer Lodge. We are also indebted for the many delicious meals provided by the Clarkston 2nd Ward R.S. and many friends in the community. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the Clarkston Chapel. A viewing will be held Wednesday night 6:30 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah and on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Clarkston Church. Interment – Clarkston City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund or Perpetual Education Fund. Condolences may be expressed online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
