Edwin John ''Jay'' Holmgren

Edwin John ?Jay? Holmgren Garland: Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Edwin John ?Jay? Holmgren Jr. passed away quietly and peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2002. Born June 14, 1915, he lived his entire life in Box Elder County. This area was truly his home, and he loved the people and everything about it. He graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State Agriculture College in Logan. He left the Bear River Valley in 1938 to serve in the Australia Mission. He vividly remembered his mission experiences and delighted in sharing them with others. In 1947 he married Norma Scholer of Bothwell, UT in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they ranched and farmed in South Tremonton, Kelton Park Valley and Garland. He served as Director of the Utah Cattleman?s Association and the Utah Farm Bureau, and he was the founder of the Bear River Livestock Association in Garland. He was an excellent horseman and owned, broke, and rode horses throughout his lifetime. He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a devoted Home Teacher, Scout Leader, and teacher of adults and young men. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin John Holmgren Sr. and Myrtle Nelson Holmgren, a brother, Douglas N. Holmgren, and a sister, Beverly Blurton. He is survived by his wife, Norma S. Holmgren, one son, Randall J. Julie Holmgren, and grandchildren, Ted, Danny, Emily, Johnny, and Betsy. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Tabernacle, 140 West Factory Street, Garland. Friends may call Friday, January 11th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Saturday, January 12th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Tabernacle.
