Edward Budd Pitcher

Budd passed away peacefully on the morning of January 12, 2024 in Logan, Utah from complications due to his age.
He was surrounded by his family to say their goodbye’s the night before.
Budd was born April 3, 1927 at home to Nathan Herbert Pitcher and Gwendolyn Mouritsen in Smithfield, Utah area known as “Pitcherville”. He was the 4th child of 6. He had 3 older brothers, one younger sister and one younger brother.
They grew up working on the farm and gained a strong work ethic. Budd said how they worked very hard but they also played hard. In his late teens the family bought a farm in Trenton, Utah. Budd began a milk route hauling milk to Cache Valey Dairy. In the winter of 1948-1949 he hauled the milk with a bobsleigh and team of horses because of record breaking snowfall.
Budd attended Summit Elementary School, Smithfield Junior High School and North Cache High School. He left High School before graduating because he was needed to help work on the farm.
He married Rheabell Jackson of College Ward, Utah on September 13, 1950. They were married in the Logan Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Two weeks after they were married Budd left to serve his country in the United States Army, being stationed at Big Delta, Alaska.
He loved his time in Alaska. He hauled mail from Big Delta to Fairbanks unless he was driving visiting dignitaries as his job in the motor pool. He claims to have been the barber and cut hair in the barracks. This was how he made extra money. After returning from the Army in 1952, he worked for a short time at Cache Valley Electric. Following that he worked for Anderson Lumber in Smithfield. In 1956, they moved to Farmington, Utah to work for Paramount Dairy, which was located in the north parking lot of Lagoon. A little more than a year later, they moved to work for Anderson Lumber. In 1968, Budd got a job at Utah State University grounds crew before transferring to the lock shop where he began his career as a locksmith. He retired from the University in 1989. His career as a locksmith continued until his death. Budd also sharpened saws, scissors, etc. for everyone in town as a side job. Budd never wanted to go anywhere because he needed to be available in case anyone called and needed him.
Budd joined the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department in 1954. He was an active member until 2005. He remained an Honorary member until his death. He took pride in being the one responsible for getting his son, Kelly, on the Fire Department and Kelly’s four son’s making firefighting their careers.
He was an active member of the Smithfield Wildlife Federation. He loved to shoot guns and hunting. He was always an outstanding marksman.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings throughout his life. He was a High Pries in the Smithfield 11th Ward at the time of his passing.
Budd is survived by his youngest brother, Orvid Pitcher of Smithfield & a sister-in-law, Lois Jackson, of Mesa, Arizona. He is survived by his sons Sharman (Linda) of Lehi & Kelly (Sandy) of Smithfield. He is survived by his grandchildren Courtney (Kelli) Pitcher, Valerie (Mike) Andrus, Adam (Cori) Pitcher, Landon (Marianne) Pitcher, Steven (Tori) Pitcher, Monica (Blake) Krahenbuhl, Mark (Britney) Pitcher, Brandt (Joni) Pitcher, Robert (Tosha) Pitcher, Randy (Chrishel) Pitcher, 14 great-grandsons, 15 great-granddaughters, & 1 great-grandbaby on the way.
Budd is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, one sister, one brother-in-law, and one sister-in-law. Willard (Seletta) Pitcher, Boyd (Blanche) Pitcher, Weldon (Merlynn) Pitcher, DaNiece (Robert) Spencer, & Marca, wife of Orvid Pitcher. His wife’s parents, Elmer (Sarah) Jackson. Siblings, David (Evelyn) Jackson, Ileen (Roy) Olsen, Glen (Yvonne) Jackson, Harold (Norma) Jackson, Scott (Ludean) Jackson, Amelia (Berdean) Buttars, Carval Jackson, One great-granddaughter, Ali Pitcher.
Our deepest heartfelt thanks to the wonderful care he received over the years from Dr. Robert M. Nash and the kind care and loving support that the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional Hospital Emergency Department and TCU Hospice Care given him until the end.
Funeral services will be held at the Smitfhfield 11th Ward Chapel (79 East 200 South) on Wednesday, January 17 at 12 noon with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 am. A viewing will be held Tuesday, January 16 from 6-8 pm at Nelson Funeral Home of Smithfield (85 S/ Main St.). Interment will follow the funeral services at the Smithfield Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Smithfield American Legion and the United States Army.
