Hyde Park ? Edna Mae Balls Johnson, 75, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Logan Regional Hospital. She was born April 26, 1929 in Logan, Utah to Arta Jesse and Leona McNeil Balls. She was the third child, first daughter, born to the couple. She grew up in Hyde Park with her four siblings, Robert James, who passed away at age 4, Arta Lloyd, Ralph Verl and her younger sister, Sharon. Mom attended school at Hyde Park Elementary until 8th grade, Smithfield School for 9th grade and then graduated from North Cache High School in 1947. That same year she married her sweetheart, Joseph Glen Johnson, in the Logan Temple on June 10, 1947. Through the years, nine children and one adopted daughter joined their eternal family. Mom enjoyed cooking, doll collecting and crocheting. She was a 4-H leader for many years, Cub Scout leader and later on became a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, where she held many offices. She and Dad decided that they would cook the meals for DUP. They thoroughly enjoyed it and served many delicious meals. Mom was a homemaker, but she also had room in her heart and house to tend children. She spent many years tending other children. Later on she worked at Utah State University as a house keeper. Several years ago, she and Dad were called to be temple officiators, which she truly enjoyed. She made many new friends in that calling. During her last few years, she really caught the spirit of genealogy work. It was her passion. She has performed many hours of service to her brother Lloyd, who resides at Sunshine Terrace. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, one son Rodney and two brothers, Ralph and Robert James. She is survived by her husband, Glen; 5 daughters: Peggy Lee Bunce, Diane John Astle, Nancy Bill Bowers, Rebecca Scott Perkes, Heidi J. Kelly Walker; 4 sons: Kevin Betty Johnson, Kelly Nyla Johnson, Jamie Karen Johnson, Cody W. Jill Johnson; her sister, Sharon Henrie; brother, Lloyd Balls and sister-in-law, Frances Danielson; 38 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
