Duane E. ?Sonny? Bjorn Tremonton: Duane E. Bjorn, also known as Sonny, 73, passed away July 15, 2002, at his home in Tremonton, due to cancer. He was born in Tremonton, UT, March 28, 1929. His parents Sophus Engelhardt and Clara Jensen Bjorn both came from Denmark and he had three brothers and three sisters. In his youth he worked in the family bakery. He graduated from Bear River High School and attended the University of Utah on a swimming scholarship. He enjoyed sports ? played football in High School and excelled in swimming - winning several medals in High School and College. He also liked to run and ran in the Golden Spike Marathon. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, spending most of his time in Germany. After his release from the Army he went to Chicago, IL, where he attended and graduated from DeVry Technical Institute of Chicago. He married Dot Kay on June 11, 1960, in Tremonton, where they spent their married life together and raised their four children, Mindy, Polly, Rick and Chad. His family was most important and he taught his children to be honest, work hard and he took them on a vacation trip every year so they could see new places and learn about new things. His grandchildren were his joy. He was employed at McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis, MO, Hillfield in Ogden and Thiokol Chemical in Promontory. Sonny is survived by his wife Dot, children, Mindy Earl Stuart, Polly Gary Miller of Tremonton, Richard Kristin of San Jose, CA, Chad Jennifer of Clinton; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Marshall, Betty Phil Wrathall, Trixie Lynn Ewer. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gene, Lyle and Babe. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Friends may call Wednesday, July 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, July 18th from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home.
