Dorothy Saunders Petersen peacefully passed during the early morning
of June 19th, 2015, encircled by loved ones, her hand held by her
loving husband, VerNon Petersen. Dorothy, born to Willard G. and
Kirstiana Saunders in Hyde Park, Utah January 27th, 1921, was raised
in Benson Utah-- the 7th of 14 children-- was preceded in death by
both of her parents, 11 brothers and sisters and her daughter Dorothy
Mae who passed away in 1947.
Dorothy attended school in Benson and Smithfield Utah, graduating
from North Cache High School in 1937 where, in her Seminary class, she
met her husband of 76 years VerNon Petersen. Two years later they were
married in the Logan LDS Temple.
After moving to Downey California, Dorothy and VerNon devoted their
lives to the raising their five children-- Dorothy Mae, Gary, Eugene,
Christie and Kevin-- eventually returning to Cache Valley, after 43
years, a place they had always called home. Since retiring in 1983
they have enjoyed traveling and spending time with a large and loving
family, including 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and 18
great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed working with VerNon in
their beautiful vegetable and flower gardens.
Dorothy loved and was faithfully devoted to the LDS church and was
thrilled to serve in the Primary for 25 years and Junior Sunday School
for 18 years. She also lead and taught in the Relief Society for many
years, affecting many of the lives around her. She often returned to
the Temple with VerNon.
In her life Dorothy blessed an innumerable amount of lives and will be
greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her family
cannot wait to see her again. Dorothy is survived by; her husband, VerNon
Petersen, her children; Gary and Rosemary Petersen of BeeBe AK, Eugene and
Luana Petersen of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Christie and Jim Chance of Hyde Park,
UT, and Kevin and Carol Petersen of Farmington, UT.
Viewing for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday June 22, 2015 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan UT. Funeral services on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hyde Park 10th Ward Chapel, 42 West 200 South, Hyde Park, Ut. Viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services.
