Dorothy Kay Chournos

August 11, 1908 — December 20, 2003

Tremonton - Dorothy Kay Chournos, 95, of Tremonton, passed away at her home in East Tremonton surrounded by her family. She was born on August 11, 1908 in Tremonton, the daughter of John Thomas Kay and Rosetta Haws. She married Nick C. Chournos on January 17, 1929 in Logan. Nick died on April 25, 1992. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. After marriage they lived in Promontory, Brigham City, and moved back to Tremonton in 1941 where she spent the remainder of her life. In addition to her husband's business she was active in the Utah Wool Growers Auxiliary serving as Vice President and President. Beginning at age 13 until age 93 she served as organist in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for primary, Relief Society, Sunday school, and sacrament meetings. Being very interested in genealogical research, she served many hours doing extraction and rewriting old English script. She also served as a faithful visiting teacher. She is survived by her children - Sam N. Janice Roche Chournos and Cherre Chournos Junior Lish of Tremonton, George R. Kumeroa Piripi Chournos of Cokeville, Wyoming, and Helen Chournos Carl G. Harper of Roy; 2 sisters - Eunice K. Summers of Garland, and Carma K. Radin of Seattle, Washington; and she has grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren numbering over 200. She was preceded in death by her husband; 2 sons - Monte Nick and Johnnie K. Chournos; 7 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Riverview LDS church, 10750 N Hwy 38 in Deweyville. Friends may call on Friday, December, 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East in Tremonton, and Saturday from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery. Condolences may be extended at
