Donald Henry Pinson

Donald Henry Pinson, 85, passed away at his home on November 8, 2002 after an extended illness. He was born March 2, 1917 to Charles Pinson and Lucy Cartwright Pinson in Preston, Idaho. Don graduated from high school and LDS seminary in 1935. He was taught the electrical business by his father, who owned and operated the Pinson Electric Co. He became a licensed electrical contractor at the age of 19 and co-owner of the business. He began working for Utah Power & Light during the depression where he served on a temporary basis doing contract work. In 1941, he joined Utah Power & Light full time. He became a lineman, troubleman and serviceman. He wired the first all-electric home in Preston, Idaho. In 1959, Don went into management. He served as District Manager in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho for 5 ½ years. He transferred to Smithfield, where he also served as District Manager. He retired from Utah Power & Light in 1979 after 39 years of company service. While employed with Utah Power & Light, he took a temporary leave of absence to serve in the U.S. Navy for one year. Don married Vera May Kirkbride July 19, 1939. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. After Don?s retirement in 1979, he volunteered for the Forest Service and traveled to various locations in the Western U.S. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was known and loved by his grandchildren for his repertoire of hilarious stories some of them true ! Of all his life?s accomplishments and honors, he was most proud of his wonderful family. Don is survived by his wife, Vera; children, Bonnie Alma Winward, Kathleen Ronald Rasmussen, Addie Paul Smith, Quin Janet Pinson and Patricia Mark Sprunt. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Two great-great grandsons preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 13th at the Smithfield LDS 17th Ward Chapel, 345 East 300 South, Smithfield, Utah. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 South Main from 6:00 ? 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday from 10:00 ? 11:40 a.m. at the church The family extends their deepest appreciation for the many kind and thoughtful expressions of love.
