Donald Raymond Barber

February 3, 1935 — October 20, 2019

Donald Raymond Barber was born on February 3, 1935 in Manito, Illinois. He grew up in a Catholic boys’ school where he was taught to love God and the Bible, which led him to eventually become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Donald has given great service throughout his life. He served as a Sergeant in the Marines. He also had various callings in the church. He was a Ward Historian, Branch President, and most recently, a Temple Worker. But most notably is the work Donald has done with genealogy. He worked as a microfilmer for the Genealogical Society of Utah for over 20 years recording ancestral and historical documents. He has also submitted thousands of names to Familysearch to help others find their own families.
Donald married Betty Louise Phillips on October 20, 1955 and had two children: Mark and Debbie. He later married Doris Jean Huffman, the love of his life, who he was sealed to for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 10, 1967 and had two children: Jeanne and Diana. They were also sealed to two other children: Bruce and Michael.
Donald made his way home on October 20, 2019 surrounded by family and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, and his children, Debbie, Mark, and Bruce. He is survived by his three children: Jeanne, Diana and Michael, his grandchildren: (John and Jeanne) Amber, Matthew, Cameron, Leah, and Ethan Neal, (Michael) Elijah Kliechermes, Casey Vaughn, Edyn, Elya, Elyssa, Emersyn, and Ezra Barber and their families with one great grandchild on the way.
The viewing for Donald will be held Thursday, October 24th, at the Henry’s Point Ward Building (680 South 1250 West) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. There will be another viewing at the same location from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Friday the 25th with the funeral following at 11 am.
