Don Page Godfrey

Clarkston—Don Page Godfrey returned to his Heavenly Father's loving arms on August 4, 2009 at his home in Clarkston, Utah. He fought a long hard fight against Parkinson Disease and severe spinal disease. He was born in Clarkston on December 6, 1924 to Henry Morris and Cora May Page Godfrey and fought hard to stay in this mortal life at birth. He was the seventh child in a family of nine. He grew up in Clarkston, working side by side with his father and siblings on the family farm. He attended school in Clarkston and at North Cache in Richmond. He always loved the farm life and especially horses and was known for his fine horsemanship. He belonged to the Clarkston Posse and won many trophies and ribbons in various events. He trained and maintained a team of horses for 25 years which he used to pull his buggy in the Martin Harris pageant. He often participated in the Pony Express race and was particularly happy when his family joined as a team and won. He worked for U & I sugar and retired from Thiokol after 28 years. Throughout his life he maintained his family farm. He especially loved riding the range for the Cattleman's Association. He was drafted into the Navy in World War II, but had an honorable release after three months due to a contracted illness in training. He met and six months later married LaRae Melva Leonhardt from Providence on June 18, 1946. They have spent the past 63 years raising and loving their family together. They have enjoyed traveling and have visited many places throughout the United States and the world. He was active in the LDS church, serving in many callings throughout the years including as a ward clerk in three different bishoprics. He served a stake mission from Smithfield Stake shortly after his marriage and later served two missions with LaRae. Don is survived by his wife, LaRae; sons: Kendon Jaydene Godfrey, Steven Paulette Godfrey, Curtis Marilyn Godfrey, all of Clarkston; a daughter: Susan Ken Munro of St. George; a foster son, Chee Smith Jr. of White Horse, NM; 16 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Sadie Lott, Iva Lue Sparks, and a brother: Sterling Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Emma, Leland both died as infants, Charlie, Agnes, Wendel, Victor and Blanche. The family wishes to express a million thanks to the tender loving care given by Access Hospice and Dr. Steven Salisbury. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Clarkston Ward Chapel, 25 East 100 South, Clarkston, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to service.
