LOGAN?Dixie Rogers Merrill, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died on July 24, 2002 at her home in Logan, UT, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 65. She was born on March 31, 1937 to Vern Shaw and Ruth Child Rogers in Ogden, UT. She married her childhood sweetheart, Marriner David Merrill, on July 10, 1959 in the LDS Logan Temple. Dixie graduated from BYU with a bachelor?s degree in Home Economics Education. When the cancer was diagnosed?Dixie was determined and did endure with ?gratitude and great humor.? Robbed of her hair by chemotherapy, she posed for a look-alike photo with her husband, David, who lost his hair many years before. Dixie leaves behind a legacy of service to others. She touched many lives over the years. She loved the scriptures and studied them daily. She served as ward and stake Relief Society President for much of her life. For the past several years she served as an officiator in the Logan Temple. Dixie was a talented quilter; known for the exquisite hand?pieced quilts she made for family and friends and for those she displayed in local and regional quilt shows. Striving to improve her craft, she joined the Utah Quilt Guild, serving in several leadership capacities and was an active participant in many local quilt groups. In response to some health problems?Dixie began a vigorous program of walking. She walked ever street in Logan coloring in every street on the map as it was completed. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, David; six children, Roger Misty, of Murrieta, CA, Mardi Steven Reber, of Riverton, UT, Mondi Mark Taylor, of Fontana, CA, Misti David Atkinson, of Vancouver, WA, MiKelle Doug Andersen, of Pocatello, ID, and Shaw Carrie, of Boise, ID; and 24 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother, Vern Rogers and her sister, Geri Wood. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the Crockett Ward Chapel, 325 Lauralin Drive where friends and family may call on Friday, July 26, 2002 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday prior to services from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
