TREMONTON, UTAH- Devoted wife, loving mother, beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, Deon passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in Logan, Utah at the age of 78. Deon was born March 12, 1932 in Thatcher, Utah to Ivie Bertha, and Melvin Christensen. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1950, and attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She married Dee C. Hirschi on June 8, 1951, in the Logan LDS Temple, and they settled on a remote cattle ranch in Park Valley, Utah where they resided for 28 years raising 7 children. In 1979 they relocated to Tremonton Utah, where they finished raising their family. Family was Deon's total focus in life and she will be missed by all as she proceeds into the next phase of her exaltation. Deon is together again with her sweetheart, Dee, who died April 7th, 2003.
Deon leaves behind seven children: Kevin Jelean Hirschi, Jackie Bryce Archibald, Denise Richard Wells, Bret Melanie Hirschi, Melanie Jerry Henley, Jennie Dave Brotherson, Vickie Cory Mecham; 33 grandchildren and 35 great- grandchildren. Deon is also survived by three sisters: Floy Scott, Elaine Neilson, Geneil LJ Sylvester, brother Porter Christensen; and sister-in-laws Verona Christensen, Fern Byron Hunsaker, Betty Earl Harris, and LaNoma Taylor. Deon is preceded in death by her husband Dee C, parents, brother, Clair Christensen, Grandchild Christian Real Henley.
Deon was active in the LDS Church, serving in all auxiliaries throughout her life. She was the mother and grandmother to 13 missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Deon also served her community for years with her participation in the Civic Club, Red-Hatter Club , volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Bear River Valley Hospital, and was a CNA at the Bear River Valley nursing home, just to name a few.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tremonton 2nd Ward Chapel, located at 300 South Tremont, in Tremonton. A viewing will be Friday, July 16, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah, and in the Tremonton 2nd Ward Chapel from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Penrose Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
The family would like to thank Access Hospice for the loving service provided, especially Montana, Sarah, Jason and Lindsay. Also, thanks to all family members who cared for Deon.
