Tremonton - Denzil Guy Ballard, 80, peacefully passed away at his home in Tremonton on January 21, 2004. Born in Cache Valley, December 16, 1923, a son to Guy Edward and L. Ellaree Ballard. Raised in Box Elder County in an agriculture family, he learned farming and ranching. He attended Bear River High School where he participated in sports and student leadership. He served overseas during WWII with the 9th Bombing Group stationed on Tinian Island.
After returning from the service he married Beth Holmgren in Bear River City on September 1, 1947. He attended Utah State University graduating in Mechanical Engineering. He participated with the family cattle and grain operation for several years before selling his livestock and working full time as a design engineer in the aerospace industry. He worked for Thiokol Chemical in Promotory, Utah and Airesearch Manufacturing, in Phoneix Arizona.
Denzil continued the family dryfarm operation for many years where he enjoyed his interest in the soil and agriculture. He used his engineering talents on many creative farm mechanical repairs. He enjoyed mathematics and physics and encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue education and an honorable productive livelihood. His greatest joy in life was working on projects with his family. He was an Elder in Tremonton 11th Ward were he was a Home Teacher and particpated in the Young Men?s Program. He is survived by his wife, five children and spouses, 23 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Children include Roberta Bobbye Moon, Ross and Julie Ballard, Guy Ray and Michelle Ballard, Alison and Byron Nelson, Tina and Byron Barker. Also surviving are two sisters, Colleen Hansen and Lou Jean Wise. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Dorothy Harris, and one grandson Dusty Moon. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Tremonton 1st Ward LDS Church located at 166 North Tremont St., Tremonton with Bishop Brian Hales officiating. Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2004 and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home located at 111 North 100 East, Tremonton.
