Tremonton, UT - Debra Marleen Waters Hand Stookey passed away peacefully in her home, July 20, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.
She was born August 30, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Gregory J. Hand March 10, 1972. They later divorced. She married Grieg Weldon Stookey February 2, 1999 for time and all eternity in the Jordan River LDS Temple.
Debbie spent 20 years in the agricultural and nursery business. She was a registered arborist, a member of the ISA and Utah Nurserymen's Association. She taught classes in arboring and helped prepare individuals to pass the arborist and nurserymen's exams. She found great joy in making things beautiful. Just as those around her found her beautiful. Her smile was radiant, her laugh contagious and she could walk in a room and immediately make people feel comfortable, accepted and loved. She always put others first and spent endless hours serving, helping and comforting those around her. Her life was lived with kindness, love and integrity.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She fulfilled many church callings willingly and with love and commitment.
She is survived by her eternal companion, Grieg Stookey; children: Ben Hand, and Tina Dorociak , Paul and Jed Stookey; grandchildren: Katee, Aspen, Ian, Ali and Connor; her father, Lamar Esther Waters; her mother, Barbara Carlson Waters Halverson; siblings: Greg Waters, and Marie Waters Rob Sorensen. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Denise and Rulon.
A graveside memorial will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
