Dean Theurer Thorpe, our beloved father and grandfather, passed away in Henderson, Nevada on January 29, 2003 at the age of 89. He was born in Providence, Utah on August 21, 1913 to Hyrum and Sophia Theurer Thorpe. He was educated in the local schools and later attended Utah State University where he studied music. He was a life long musician participating in many bands and choirs. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dean held many positions including choir director, Sunday school chorister and home teacher. Dean moved to McGill, Nevada as distributor for the Salt Lake Tribune in 1937. He met Ruth Doutre and they were married on October 16, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. Spending the next 62 years in Ely, Nevada, they raised 4 children. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Vera Campbell, Beatrice Machin, Eunice Jones and brothers: Lyman and Paul. He is survived by wife Ruth, children: Dee Ann Jim Petersen, Karen Max Jensen, Randy Thorpe and Donna Tad Koch; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North in Logan, Utah. Interment will follow in the Logan City Cemetery.
