Darrell Rulon Schiffman

January 23, 1914 — July 21, 2004

Darrell Rulon Schiffman, 90, our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Logan, Utah. Darrell was born in Logan on January 23, 1914. His parents were Albert and Evalene Barrett Schiffman. He was the eighth child in a family of twelve children, ten boys and two girls. At the age of nine, Darrell was hit by a car, which resulted in a life-threatening head injury. He miraculously survived, but due to the severity of the injury, was unable to pursue an education. However, he made the best of his difficult situation, which was a trademark throughout his life. Darrell built a career in the construction business and worked on many of the major construction projects in Cache Valley and the surrounding areas. He worked on the first natural gas pipeline from Brigham City to Logan, on many of the buildings that were built at Utah Sate University, and on the remodeling project at the Logan Temple. Darrell was an avid gardener and raised a large garden for over sixty years. He loved sharing his delicious fruits and vegetables with friends and neighbors. Darrell was a High Priest and active in the LDS Church. He was called to various positions during his life. One of his favorite callings, when he was older, was greeting and welcoming everyone to church, especially the children and teenagers. One of the hallmarks of his life was serving those in need. He especially loved helping the elderly and widows fix and maintain their homes and yards. One winter he shoveled nineteen people?s driveways and sidewalks for the entire winter. Darrell is survived by his three sons: Jay Trish of Bountiful; Gary Susan of Sandy; and Farrell of West Valley City; his brothers: Glen Beth of Ogden; Lloyd Pauline of Roy; and his sister Mae of Logan; thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Darrell was preceded in death by his dear, sweet wife of sixty-nine years, Norma Yearsley Schiffman, his parents, his sister Rose, and his brothers Bert, Earl, Fred, Mel, Ray, Roy and Clair. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Logan Tenth Ward Chapel, 792 North 500 East. Family and friends may pay their respects at a viewing before the funeral from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
