Darrel M. Stuart, 83, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Logan Regional Hospital of causes incident to age. He was born January 4, 1925, in Uintah, Weber County, Utah, the son of Claude Elliott and Ellen Fernelius Stuart. After graduating from Weber High School, Darrel served in the Army during WWII. He later received a BS degree from Brigham Young University, an MS degree from the University of Idaho, and a PhD from Utah State University. By profession Darrel was a soil scientist and a plant physiologist. He worked for the Federal Government and also for Harza Engineering in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Darrel married Afton Mae Hayward for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on November 30, 1951. Together they had six children and 16 grandchildren. Darrel loved photography, and won many awards for his work. He also loved music, and sang with the Northern Utah Choral Society for many years. He loved the Lord and served him in many capacities. At the time of his death he had served as the High Priest's Group Secretary in the Logan 5th Ward for over two decades. He also served in the Logan Temple Baptistry. Darrel was one of ten brothers and sisters. Preceding him in death were sisters Elinor Gardner, Verda Gardner, Lillian Knudsen, Marjorie Hatch, and Doris Henrie. Darrel is survived by two brothers: Elliott Fay Stuart and Kenneth Marion Stuart, both of Uintah, UT; and sisters Ila Jean Farrell Carter and Joann Robinson of Ogden, UT. Darrell is also survived by two foster brothers: David Judy Stuart of American Fork, UT and Dick Shirley Brown of Herriman, Utah. Darrel was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon, and is survived by his wife, Afton, of Logan; two sons, David Laurie Stuart of Clarkston, UT, and Harold Kathleen Stuart of San Jose, CA; and three daughters, Ellen Roger Lemaster of Burns WY; Anne Steven Dennis of Rexburg, ID; and Paula Dayne Medlyn of Windsor, CO. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Logan 5th Ward Chapel, 300 North 500 East, Logan. There will be a viewing held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and also prior to services on Wednesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the church.
